La película va sobre el director

Leyendo los comentarios de un antiquísimo post de mi querida Slashfilm (de uno sobre el crítico Armond White y 12 años de esclavitud, que ya mencioné por aquí), he dado con una interesantísima reflexión sobre las películas y el mensaje que transmiten: ¿va Titanic del barco que se hundió y la gente que murió o de la visión del mundo de James Cameron? ¿es Alien una historia sobre un extraterrestre que va cargándose a todos los humanos que se encuentra o sobre las tendencias políticas de Ridley Scott? He aquí el comentario que a mí me ha dado que pensar:

12 Years a Slave is a work of art of its time -- that being the time it was made, not the time it was represented -- as is true of all historical dramas. Braveheart is more about Mel Gibson's attitudes and the current culture of the 1990's when the film was made than it was of the 13th century. Gladiator was closer in tone and intent to the 2000's than it was to the 1st century. Even Schindler's List reveals more about Spielberg than it is actually about the presentation of the adapted events. That we buy into that lie, that we think we are actually seeing the past through the silver screen, is a testament to not only the power of the moving image, but also to our own imaginations and empathetic tendencies
